January 2025: Cocoa On The Common

Hello Cookie Friends!

Our return to work after the New Year's break was a bit bumpy, so I apologize for the delay in this month's blog. While this is one of our holiday flavors, I just really like it and wanted to share it for January. Based on January's weather, the Hot Cocoa cookie seems like the perfect choice.

For years, I've envisioned having 12 holiday flavors (because you can't have a 12 Days of Christmas box without 12 flavors), and I always loved the idea of a hot cocoa flavor.

When we started developing this recipe, I knew I didn't want it as dark as many of our other chocolate bases. Instead, I wanted it to remind you of that first warm cocoa after skating or sledding.

We begin by creaming unsalted butter with a blend of light brown and granulated sugar. Once perfectly combined, we add eggs, vanilla, and a splash of chocolate milk, mixing until smooth and velvety. Next, we incorporate a blend of natural and Dutch-processed cocoas, flour, leaveners, and a touch of salt to round out the flavor. After thoroughly combining the mixture, we fold in mini marshmallows. We then hand-scoop and bake the cookies to chewy, chocolate perfection.

The name comes from skating on Boston Common, because you know I'm always going to tie it back to the city I love.
